State Scholastic Chess Tournament

The Idaho State Scholastic Chess Tournament is open to residents of Idaho who have qualified via the qualification schedule.  The winners of each section will be invited to represent Idaho at the National

Frequently Asked

Who can play ?

Anybody is legible to play providing they have at least a fundamental understanding of how to play chess.  All Rated Tournaments require a USCF membership an some require and ICA membership.

What is the difference between "Rated" and "Unrated" ?

Unrated Games are typically casual and played just for fun.  Rated games are generally for those that are a little more serious about competing where the rating privides a ranking for players.

Are there prizes ?

Most but not all tournaments have some type of prize which can be in the form of a:

  • Cash
  • Trophies
  • Certificates
  • Gifts
How big are the tournaments ?

ICA Tournaments typcially round from around 20 to 30 players but could be more or less.

What form of payment is required ?

When completing your registration for an tournament (unless it is a free event), you will be directed to PayPal for payment. Paypal payments are secure and PayPal accepts payments in many forms however, you do not have to be a PayPal member to process a payment.

Do you have "FIDE" tournaments ?

ICA is the USCF Official State Affilliate for the state of Idaho with most tournaments will be rated with USCF.  From time-to-time, we may have a Dual-Rageted event with FIDE.

Do I have do be a member of ICA ?

Although many tournaments put together by ICA do not require ICA membership, all “Titled” events do require ICA membership

Most ICA Tournaments do require up-to-date membership with the USCF . Please make sure your membership is up-to-date at the time of registration.
