BACKGROUND & CONTEXT

Why This Matters

In March 2026, the ICA Board elected new leadership. Upon review, the new Board concluded that continuing operations as the ICA was no longer viable due to circumstances inherited from the previous administration. The Board acted in the best interest of members and the Idaho chess community to ensure responsible closure of the organization.

Continuity of Service (March – May 2026)

Following the March 2026 elections, the new ICA Board remained committed to serving Idaho's chess community throughout the transition period. During this time, the Board continued to host four major tournaments:
Event Month Held Participants Awards & Qualification
Idaho Scholastic Championship April 2026 83 players National qualifiers awarded (K-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12 grade sections)
Idaho Scholastic Tournament of Champions April 2026 Top performers Scholastic State Champion crowned
Women's/Girls Championship May 2026 Regional competitors Women's State Champion crowned; Girls winner qualified for Girls National Invitational
Senior Championship May 2026 Adult division Senior National Invitational qualifier
These events ensured uninterrupted chess programming for Idaho members while organizational decisions were being finalized.
Since May 18, 2026, the Idaho Chess Network (ICN) has operated all chess programs, tournaments, and memberships without disruption. The ICN is currently pending final USCF State Affiliate approval with conditional status granted by the SAC.
