From: The Board of Directors, Idaho Chess Association / Idaho Chess Network
Dear Idaho Chess Community,
Introducing the Idaho Chess Network We are writing to announce a major evolution in our state's chess organization. To ensure long-term stability, financial transparency, and a modernized future for Idaho chess, the Idaho Chess Association (ICA) will be succeeded by a new entity: The Idaho Chess Network, Inc.
Operating publicly as the Idaho Chess Network and administratively as Idaho Chess Federation for US Chess Federation Purposes. This new organization will take over all chess activities, tournaments, and affiliate functions effective May 18, 2026, immediately following the Senior State Tournament.
Continuity of Service & Current Status
The games will be rated, the results will be submitted to US Chess, and the invitationals for national events will be processed on time. We are in the process of formally transitioning our legal structure to become the recognized State Chapter for Idaho under the new name, a process that will be finalized at the upcoming US Chess Annual Meeting in August.
Following a leadership transition earlier this year, the Board determined that establishing a new legal entity is the most responsible path forward to:
-
Secure a fresh, compliant 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
-
Implement modern financial controls and transparency.
-
Ensure a seamless future for our players, clubs, and tournament directors.
-
For Players: Nothing changes for your participation. You will still compete in state tournaments and qualify for events.
-
For Clubs & Directors: Your ability to host rated events continues uninterrupted under our current affiliate status and will seamlessly transition to the new entity.
-
For Members: If you have an active membership, it remains valid. We will be reaching out shortly with details confirming your membership status with the new organization.
The Idaho Chess Network is excited to build on the legacy of the ICA. We are committed to growing the game, supporting our youth, and fostering a vibrant chess community across Idaho.
-
To kick things off: We will launch with The Idaho Open as the first tournament under the new organization.
We thank you for your continued support and passion for chess. We look forward to seeing some of you at the Senior Tournament on Saturday May 15, 2026.
