Help Us Build the Future of Chess in Idaho

Join the Idaho Chess Network as a Tournament Director

Big Plans for Idaho Chess

The Idaho Chess Network (ICN) is here. As the successor to the Idaho Chess Association and the upcoming official US Chess Federation (USCF) State Affiliate, we are launching a new era for chess in the Gem State (doing business as The Idaho Chess Federation).

We have ambitious goals:

  • Launching dozens of new tournaments across Idaho over the next year.
  • Bringing competitive, rated chess to schools, libraries, and communities that haven't seen it in years.
  • Creating a sustainable pipeline for young players to reach state and national levels.

Our Strategy: Grow Together, Not Alone We know that rapid growth can overwhelm even the most dedicated volunteers. That is why our plan is built differently from the start.

Instead of relying on a handful of people to do everything, we are building a wide team of Tournament Directors (TDs) right now.

By recruiting and training new TDs before the rush begins, we ensure that:

  1. Workload is Shared: No single person carries the burden of running the entire state's events.
  2. Sustainability: We create a deep bench of leaders so the program thrives for years, not just months.
  3. Prevention of Burnout: We distribute responsibilities evenly, ensuring every director has time to enjoy the game they love.

Why Become a TD with ICN?

You don't need to be a Grandmaster or a math expert. You just need a passion for chess and a desire to help your community.

When you join our team, you get:

  • A Mentor Program: You will never be thrown into the deep end. We assign an experienced mentor to guide you through your first tournaments, helping with pairings, rules, and logistics.
  • Official Status: Become a certified USCF Club Level TD, authorized to run rated events anywhere in Idaho.
  • Community Impact: Be the person who brings official chess to your local town or school.
  • A Supportive Network: Join a growing family of organizers who are building Idaho chess together.

Who Should Apply?

  • Parents: Want to ensure your child has a thriving local chess scene?
  • Teachers: Looking to start a competitive club at your school?
  • Players: Ready to give back to the community?
  • Organizers: Want to help manage events without the stress of doing it all alone?
